Learn how to use ScoreTail to create and edit your music scores.
ScoreTail is a web-based music score editor that makes it easy to create, edit, and share sheet music. You can start using ScoreTail without creating an account by clicking "Try without signing up" on the landing page.
ScoreTail has two main interaction modes:
Navigate and select existing notes. Use arrow keys to move selection or change pitch.
Add new notes to your score. Use letter keys (A-G) to set pitch and number keys (1-6) for duration.
ScoreTail includes built-in audio playback so you can hear your music as you write it.
Working with multi-part scores? ScoreTail lets you filter which parts to display and control playback volume for each part — perfect for practice sessions.
Show or hide individual parts in the score view. Use the eye icon to toggle visibility, or click "Solo" to view only one part.
Control playback volume for each part independently. Great for practicing your part with accompaniment at a lower volume.
Use "Solo" in the Part Audio section to hear your part at full volume while all other parts play softly in the background — perfect for ensemble practice!
Work together with others in real-time! When multiple people open the same score, everyone can see changes as they happen.
ScoreTail supports MusicXML, the standard format for sheet music interchange.
Import MusicXML (.xml, .musicxml) or compressed MusicXML (.mxl) files from other notation software like MuseScore, Finale, or Sibelius.
Export your scores as MusicXML files to use in other applications or share with others.
Share your music with the world! ScoreTail makes it easy to share your scores.
Create a public link that anyone can use to view (but not edit) your score. Perfect for sharing your compositions on social media or embedding in websites.
Share the editor URL directly with collaborators who you want to be able to edit the score.
